In their various incarnations, the UK based DJ duo Rita Ray and Max Reinhardt have played a crucial role in championing worldwide music in all its forms. As part of the pioneering collective who ran Brixton’s Mambo Inn they held one of the first and longest running world music club residencies in London (1989-97). They went on to found The Shrine and its travelling offspring The Shrine Synchro System - platforms they use to promote Afrocentric club nights and events in the UK and internationally. Individually they are also involved in radio, TV, theatre, festival programming, writing and remixing. From Afro Beat to Balkan beats, Rita Ray and Max Reinhardt continue to create inventive ways for new audiences to access world music and they should be credited for bringing some real of shots of inspiration to many a dancefloor.
